Okay, diverse may be a reach, but in the world of footwear and apparel, women have often taken a backseat in the presentation of sports to a market that has now become impossible to ignore due to the power play of Lululemon.
There is a lot of frustration for women athletes in the sneaker industry. Often, the athletes are overlooked for trendier picks in sponsorships (models, Social Media Models). I discussed the lack of work by adidas in celebrating the legacy of Pat Summitt, and their failure in promoting the WNBA as the official apparel of the league, but in the last year adidas has made a serious effort to increase its marketshare to women.
It took an upstart focused on women to make it happen, but my opinion is whatever it takes to light a fire under the ass of the big players in apparel to increase diversity and inclusion is okay.

“The adidas by Stella McCartney Spring/Summer 2017 campaign is about inspiring today’s women to test themselves, wherever their workout takes them. We wanted to celebrate their incredible energy manifested through movement and creativity, as well as the exceptionally dynamic lifestyles that Karlie, Octavious and Chelsey lead. These three women show that if you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything,” says Stella McCartney.
