ASICS has been consistently involved in the lifestyle market via their retro models and collabs with KITH. The brand was becoming synonymous with Ronnie Fieg and while that’s good for keeping the conversation lively, it can be compared to adidas constantly denying that Kanye is the primary influence behind their recent success.
Sneaker professionals and the Three Stripes insist that their brand portfolio and heritage is the reason they are popular. However, when adidas signed Kanye he hadn’t put out a shoe, but the first shoe he wore was the adidas ZX Flux and the resurging adidas was tied directly to that shoe first and then there are pictures of Kanye in Superstar and Stan Smith before he wore the BOOST products before ever stepping out in a Yeezy. The connection is there and those who want to ignore that, but give Nike endorsers credit for delivering millions of dollars in social media, and Rihanna and Kylie Jenner responsibility for Puma’s new growth, are literally assholes. Now that this rant is over let’s get back to Majid Jordan.
The OVO affiliated duo gets their hands on the Gel Knit Trainer and flexes. As ASICS begins to gain ground based on a fantastic incarnation of a knit trainer, a very on trend shoe, undoubtedly the conversation for ASICS Lifestyle growth will be tied to Fieg and his collabs. I don’t think Majid Jordan and OVO will be thought of as the reason for the continued success, but it’s definitely a continued small move towards relevance that ASICS has taken by linking with guys like Poggy Kogi and Ricardo Nunes. Check out the video below.
Oh, the small note on the source link that 10 colors of the Knit Trainer will drop, dope.
