For our Holiday Saucony Select release, we looked for inspiration in one of our favorite places, the kitchen. Winter in the Northeast calls for comfort food, and we’ve cooked something up that is sure to turn you from cold and hangry to warm and soleful.

If there was a vote and I had to select a “brand of the year” Saucony would arguably be the dopest lifestyle brand of 2017. While everyone else created lightweight knit runners, Saucony dove into the premium materials waters and stayed there. They produced a series of drops this year that were absolutely amazing from a quality standpoint. if anyone can name a doper release than the Bricks release by Saucony this year, I’ll wait. Now at the end of the year the brand has taken a college meal staple and turned it into another well crafted release that comes in under the price of your favorite sneaker, but blows your favorite sneaker out of the water with details.

Taking inspiration from his time in Asia, Senior Lifestyle Footwear Designer Josh Fraser created a beautiful rendition of one of his favorite Asian inspired dishes on the Grid 8500. From the engineered embroidered noodle material to the transparent broth outsole, Fraser paid close attention to detail with his design. Ramen has a long standing history, preceding it’s Japanese association in the 17th century, the true origin of Ramen is in China. In it’s early days, the popularity of the dish was how comforting and filling it was for the cost. In 1910, Chinese cooks popularized “shina soba”. Shina for China and soba for the already popular noodle dish. Shina soba would then catch on with the working class; it was the perfect dish for those without much time or money. Fast forward to present day and you can get all different iterations of Ramen, but our love remains in a traditional bowl.

From the packaging to the Miso Green Rope laces and Miso Green inner lining (an additional set of Red Rope laces have been included as well as a custom Ramen dustbag) the shoe is again a winner from Saucony which only gives me more reason to think that Saucony has to begin building their own hired content creation team. The process of delivering content on this model should have been more than one post. Right now I can walk into Foot Locker and find Saucony footwear for below wholesale. I can visit other sneaker shops and see the same thing. This is primarily an issue with storytelling and it doesn’t make a lot of sense that these incredible drops should not be highly regarded by the sneaker community. That’s another story… right now the focus should be on the Ramen which in my opinion makes the Jordan 11 look like a shoe for Ronald McDonald.
