While I seem to be focused solely on Kanye as the reason for adidas’ resurgence, I get reminded that adidas is simply doing what they went away from in the 90s, placing their finger on the pulse of the culture. The ‘We The Future’ concept is a natural extension for the three stripes that captures the power of Run DMC holding their shell toes up while performing ‘My Adidas’. In other words adidas is not resting on laurels. They realize that Nike is powered by sport and at this point they will never be able to overcome them in that territory, but by looking at the subversive and avant garde art movements generated by Hip-Hop culture they are in a way sneaking through the back door.
