In a blink of an eye, the playoffs 9’s have become the Air Jordan 9 IX Retro OG Space Jam. This is exactly what happens when a shoe is retroed so many times. JB feels the need to alter its nickname just to throw us off. I understand MJ rocked these Jordan 9’s during the “space Jam ” movie, but they are commonly called the Air Jordan 9 Playoffs. Call me grumpy old man but I think the “nickname” of the shoes should be unchanged-JB is basically showing contempt to the Sneaker Community. Yes ,the 9’s are a property of Nike and yes they can do whatever they want; but to me , it sounds more like they are trying to capitalize on the phrase “Space jam”.
Originally released in 1993, and then retroed in 2002,2008 and 2010 the playoff 9 is dressed in white and black for the most part. Branding comes in red on the outside of the mesh tongue,heel, midsole and outsole; one interesting fact about the shoes is the ” Nike Air ” text on the insoles ( JB is trying to take it back to old days).Three wears ago, I go injured playing in a pair of Adidas basketball shoes, so I decided to revert back to Jordan’s and was lucky to pick up a pair of 9’s for under $120. I literally destroyed them on the court. They give you a great ankle support, are very comfortable, cushiony ( they are equipped with invisible Zoom Air Units) and definitely durable- I left them out in the rain , I did yard work with them and still used them on the playground.
The Air Jordan 9 IX Retro OG Space Jam will officially release on December 3rd and will retail for $190. My buddy Chris and I will do a “should you buy to flip” show on these, so stay tuned for further updates and enjoy the pictures below.
