When I was young we didn’t have cable. I would have to find someone in the neighborhood who had cable and then camp out as long as possible to catch the Slam Dunk contest. Back then it was the biggest event of the year because the All Stars actually participated. As a matter of fact the All Stars participated up until about the time LeBron entered the league. By then the All Stars weren’t bold enough to lace em up and enter.

This year is kind of the same, but after last year there is some excitement again for the contest since Aaron Gordon is back and should have no problem taking home the trophy… unless DeAndre Jordan pulls a Dwight Howard and wins it for the bigs. After watching this video below though, Gordon might get upset by a dude that has only logged 11 minutes on an NBA court: Derrick Jones Jr.

My money though is on Gordon… unless Big Dog Jr does something ridiculous. He can fly.

The 3 Point Contest is missing Steph. Without Steph it’s not a contest. Klay Thompson is going to walk away with this. Then again Kyrie won before and CJ McCollum has smooth stroke so there may be some excitement. I can almost guarantee that there will be some comedy with Nick Young hitting the court. My money is that his performance will be the main thing to watch.

The Taco Bell Skills Challenge might end up being more entertaining than the 3 Point Contest. Consider this, there are 4 bonafide big men participating this year. Boogie Cousins, The Process, The Brow and my pick to win it all Kristaps Porzingis, are all set to compete against 4 guards who aren’t really known for distributing the rock. Check out this video that features a few of the contestants.
