On October 29th of 2003, a young man by the name of Lebron James was the attraction of many in the sports’s world, at the Sleep Train arena in Sacramento. King james was making his NBA debut against the Kings and lived up to his expectation finishing the game with  25 points, 9 assists, 6 boards and 4 steals. Looking back at some of the  highlights, what caught my attention is his court vision and his natural PG abilities. His jumper was still very raw but over the years though not his forte, he has developed some sort of a consistent jumper. To this day, with his antics aside, Lebron James is still one of the if not the best all around basketball player I’ve ever seen. For years, it has been every athlete’s dream to be signed to Nike and Lebron wasn’t any different.

At the age of 18, Nike had already given James a sneaker deal and on his very first NBA game, he was wearing his own signature shoes, the Nike Air Zoom Generation. Earlier this year, Nike bought back the black edition of the Zoom generation. I know I’ve mentioned the Edit To Amplify before and it’s becoming a very redundant phrase but the truth of the matter is: Nike is definitely recycling all their classics and rightfully so. Bringing back the OG zoom generation is a brilliant idea which might slightly revive the dying Lebron signature line. Nike basketball shoes have been on a very steep decline and Chris Burns from ARCH explained how Nike can regain some momentum-see Nike Continues To Rebuild Basketball Sales via the Blueprint.

The Zoom Generation  were  priced at $130 when they originally released in 2003. What does the inflation say about the new $175 price tag on them?

Based on the inflation calculator, the Nike Air Zoom Generation should have been priced at $145.94 , so the consumer is basically paying $30 more than he/she is supposed to. This is terrible and Nike ought to be ashamed of itself for this. I think they purposely limited the number of units produced for this very reason. It would have been better for Nike to just parallel the inflation prediction and then create more units. Frankly I think sales would’ve been great had that been the case.

THE SHOES

the Nike Air Zoom Generation  were supposedly engineered to represent what a physical beast LJ was coming out of high school. With a combination of a mesh and leather upper. the shoes were equipped with a special ventilation system near the midfoot. They also sported an external heel counter air zoom units on the midsole for superior cushioning. The first colorway to drop will be the white and red one.
