I had no desire to do a Should You Buy To Flip on the Space Jam 11. The problem is I’ve gotten e-mails and phone calls asking me if I’m getting them for the shop and I’ve said over and over, no. I then repeated the phrase to each person, “There are going to be so many shoes out there, that if you just wake up and visit a store or go to SNKRS or Eastbay, or Footlocker, or Jimmy Jazz, or City Gear’s websites you should score your size. No one believes me, so here we are. Let me put this in perspective for you, 1 store alone is getting 100 pairs of the BG/GS Kids size. 100 at one store!!!!! What do you think Nike only gave it to that store? Hell no, but you think you’re going to score big on the Space Jam 11 right? As always if you’re getting a discount on the shoes, this isn’t for you. If you are buying as a collector, good for you. If you think this is the Nintendo Mini or the Hatchimal, what will you get for your time and stress?  Let’s get to it.

*** I’ve been neglecting to say that I’m writing these for those people who don’t have a hookup or discount. On almost any Jordan Brand release if you get a discount you can flip it for a profit.

Since I do 3 checks before my decision I will weight them on a scale of 1-9. The max points on a scale = +3

*** New addition to the rating system: Tier 1: 0-25% = +1    Tier: 26-55% = +2     Tier 3: 56% and up is +3

First check: The Flight Club Check is on deck.  This is an 11 release and traditionally you have to do a GS  version of the breakdown because the GS actually leaves you more room than the men’s shoes. The problem is the GS crowd has been gravitating towards different brands. None of the GS shoes by Jordan Brand have immediately sold out, but FC has the shoes up at 300.00. This is a solid markup, but you aren’t FC. Expect the GS to move at about 250-275 max. Because there will be so many available I may be aiming high so the GS price I’m dropping down to 225.00. The Men’s shoe is not available on FC. Which means they have either sold out or they realize that it won’t have the margins. I’m sure it’s because they sold out. They do have the 2009 version at 500, but I think that this shoe will not reach that price until about a year from now, and maybe not even then. So let’s analyze the GS at both 275 and 225. Retail on the GS and Men’s is 170 and 220 respectively. Plus tax the Mens shoe will be about 245. The kids shoe will be about 185.00 which leaves this price breakdown ROI:

Retail: 170.00 + tax = 185.00

Fees: 13% at a generous 275.00 sold price = 35.75

Shipping Fees = 15.00

Total cost of the shoe (If you don’t get a discount) = 235.75

If you can get 275 a pair the GS version of the Retro 11 will be an okay pick up. The ROI for that shoe will be about 15%. This places the shoe in a tier 1 status which is only worth a +1, I don’t see the Mens going for crazy money and at 245 retail, You would have to sell the shoe for 400.00 to get a great return on the shoe and I’m telling you the availability for the first time will be crazy. I’m not saying don’t buy to flip. If you have a discount, go for it, but I can only give this shoe a…

Second check: My second check is always on eBay. The eBay Check is always easier to make an estimation. Let’s check the last five sold listings for both Mens and GS:

December 9th – 329.00   – 190.00

December 9th – 319.99 –  239.95 (Size 7)

December 9th – 293.00 – 230.00

December 9th – 329.99 – 229.99

December 9th – 284.99 – 229.95

When we do the average price for Mens 1556.97/5 = 311.39 This is exactly where I expect the Mens shoe to sell which means that if you get it at retail you would lose money on the release. The GS shoe is even worse than I thought on the low end at 1119.89/5 = 223.98. I said that this shoe would go at about 225 in my FC check and eBay is ringing true. I said I didn’t want to waste my time doing this and I hope you are getting the picture. I don’t want to give the shoe a zero on resale here so it’s getting a

Third check: My third check is now a combination of Twitter hype, launch locators and StockX. StockX has the Retro 11 but sharing the link is a waste of time. The shoe is basically sitting with listing prices of 305 average. This is in hand and ready to ship. Tomorrow the release will actually be so extensive that FootLocker’s Launch Locator looks like one big black and white blob. A bit of an insider tip. The shoe is restocking for All Star weekend, Boom! That’s in February!!!!! Just in case you don’t get what I’m saying here is the Launch Locator pic:

Now think about Jimmy Jazz, Finish Line, City Gear, DTLR and other chains. Get the picture? Even if you miss out dudes are going to panic who don’t pay attention to me and give them up for basically retail.

Rating = +1

My final ruling: +3 is my overall rating. Have been wrong on these before? No. Never. Not yet, and I don’t think that will change here. Don’t say I didn’t warn you… but if I’m wrong, write me and let me know. I can take it.

Stay Motivated Fam…
