NIKE AIR FOAMPOSITE ONE

In 97 I finally realized I wouldn’t heal from my back injury. I had gotten hurt on the first day of practice when I was playing JUCO ball. I was a soph with no college offers and I had sat out my second season. I was transferring to San Diego State and our team sucked. This was before Steve Fisher showed up and made us into a real program. I was headed into my junior year and I thought I could walk on since my strength was coming back, but I never got a chance to set foot on the court at SDSU because I was meant to do something else. I started coaching and became a high school assistant coach. I still balled and I was from Memphis, and although I was an Adidas head, I rocked the Air LWP when I was working out with the team. I wasn’t much older than the players so the practices were great. In San Diego the only person to get the Foamposites was the China Man in downtown San Diego. I didn’t know one person that got a pair. To be honest I never liked the shoe. I thought it was one of the craziest looking things I’d ever seen. As the years went by and I became a head coach and gave away my Jordan 15s, made my teams were the Adidas Bromium 2 (the best basketball shoe ever), and the Adidas SL (the worst shoe ever) and eventually the first team Jordan… I could keep going… The Foamposite never really crossed my mind. When I moved back to Memphis though, that changed. By the time 2011 hit I had every colorway of the shoe when we did the first sneaker event here in Memphis. Alright I know you didn’t come to read my hoops history, but I have to add this. The Foamposite was my big pickup later and it became my downfall with the Silver Camo and Spiderman. That’s another story. The OG Foamposite is back, but should you buy to flip? The shoe drops on January 26th after being pushed back from December. To me that was a sign.

*** I’ve been neglecting to say that I’m writing these for those people who don’t have a hookup or discount. On almost any Jordan Brand release if you get a discount you can flip it for a profit.

Since I do 3 checks before my decision I will weight them on a scale of 1-9. The max points on a scale = +3

*** New addition to the rating system: Tier 1: 0-25% = +1    Tier: 26-55% = +2     Tier 3: 56% and up is +3

First check: The Flight Club Check is on deck.  The Foamposite is officially dead. I really shouldn’t go on and write the rest of this. I knew it when I began writing, but I hadn’t done any checks on it and I was given a suggestion to do this, but I already knew what would be the outcome. Flight Club remains my go to for pricing.  FC doesn’t have the 2017 yet, but they have the Ben Gordon Blue Pro, at retail. They have the 2007, at 400. Take away 100.00 dollars automatically and that gives you a 300.00 price point which after tax and shipping means you are less than a 8% return, is just what I thought. But this is the reality check, the 2011 is at retail of 250.00. If the 2011 is on FC at 250, then the 2017 may end up being a slow mover just like the Yeezy Foam was and the in store release of the Dr. Doom Foam was. I can’t even do a ROI on this shoe at the projected 250.00

Rating = 0

Second check: My second check is always on eBay. The eBay Check is always easier to make an estimation. This is the thing though, there are only 15 listings under “Air Foamposite One 2017” and of those 15 only three sold listings are the Royal 2017s. Here is the price of sold shoes as of 1/12/2017:

January 6 – 294.99

January 8 – 299.90

January 10 – 304.90

When we do the average price 899.79/3 = 299.93 My FC projection was 250.00. For the first time team early on eBay is actually getting more for this shoe than FC. Which is interesting, but at 299.93, it isn’t interesting enough. It remains a Tier 1 ROI so it is a +1. Which is better than my first check, but let’s be real, who wants to get 5 dollars back? Here is the breakdown: 300.00. Free Shipping = 15.00 + eBay Fees at 13% = 39.00. That’s 54.00 dollars taken from your 300.00 dollars. That’s 246.00. If you’re in Memphis tax is 9.25% so 230 plus tax is 251.28… Okay nevermind about that 5 dollars. This shoe doesn’t even get a +1.

Rating = 0

Third check: My third check is now a combination of Twitter hype, launch locators and StockX. StockX has the 2017  https://stockx.com/air-foamposite-one-royal-blue-20th-anniversary When you click to sell this is the current offer: HIGHEST BID: $260 | LOWEST ASK: $325 The ask is the seller’s price and the bid is obvious. Do I need to write more? I can’t even give this third check a +1, but I am because at least the early pairs that came with the signed Penny card and sharpie is selling for 500.00.

Rating = +1

My final ruling: +1 is my overall rating. This one officially ties for the lowest projected flip value in the series so far. It’s crazy (and good) that the Foam has dropped so low in value. I guess naming something after “Penny” was foreshadowing. Flip at your own risk, cue Planet Patrol.

Stay Motivated Fam…
