What happened to Jordan Brand stopping the production of the Air Jordan 3 model? In 2014 The company’s VP said that the Jordan 3 was going to be put in the vault until further notice, but the way this plan has been implemented is a farce.

The Sports Blue Jordan 3  was supposed to be the last pair to drop with the Jumpman logo on the back panel; if I’m not mistaken. It’s been three years since the news broke out and it sounds more like a marketing scheme at this point – create enough buzz around the shoe to send the consumer into a buying frenzy.
Nike turned around and brought back what they call the Remastered Jordan 3 True Blue. If you’re going to stop the production of the Jordan 3, it must be done thoroughly and not half-way, the entire silhouette must be done away with, not just slight aspects of it.
I️ actually think if the brand had followed through with the plan, it could have revived the Jordan Retros. At this point, no one really cares that much  anymore about Jordan Retros and the proof is right before our very eyes- the Jordan 6 Gatorade was supposed to take us back to MJ ‘s era via nostalgia but it failed miserably . The sneakers were already available on eBay before the actual release date  for below their suggested retail price. I️ don’t even think scarcity will polish the image of Jordan Brand at this time. They’ve flooded the market with such a pile of frivolous retros that no one gets excited anymore.
The element of surprise on the other hand may come in handy for Jordan Brand . For once it would be great if blogs and sneaker sites didn’t publish a billion times the entire Air Jordan release Calendar  for the next 8 months.  It might be appropriate to keep the consumer in the dark and build the hype by creating a sense of excitement.  I️ think coupling it with putting certain shoes in the vault for maybe 10 to 15 years may just benefit Nike and its derivatives. Will all that said, I’m still excited about the Black Cement 3 coming back next year, Jordan Brand can put the Retro 3 in the vault once the cement 3 releases.

  1. Maybe the better question is “Does Nike/Jordan Brand ever stop lying to their customers?” I know, I know…sounds pretty aggressive but think about it for a bit. My guess is they were looking for a reaction to help guide the future roadmap of the model just like how a foul person would say something stupid to see if they could get you worked up.

    1. Tayib wrote this one, but I think Nike has shifted and fired so many people and that they are so top heavy the initiatives take entirely to long to implement and then they simply make a turn because the accountability isn’t what it should be. There aren’t people like you and I sitting and writing about Nike everyday. We are an external audit without the ear of the company. If I was sitting in an office or working indirectly with Nike, or if Tayib was working indirectly with Nike when the memos slide across the desk there would be a corporate post stating, “hey you lied or hey this is stupid.” It’s obvious the checks and balances are not in large corporations or if they are they are bogged down in the chain of command.

      1. This is such a spot on response. One of the things I am known for on my contract jobs is my brutal honesty. If an idea sucks I’ll tell them specifically why it does so we can go back to the drawing board and pivot.

No one benefits, definitely not a companies bottom line they brought me in to imrpove if I sit there and lie.

I see too many people within large organization today just accepting mediocrity as a standard or norm so no reason for me to believe you’re far off in that assertion. I recently went in on a digital wallet, leaving them a stinging review on a major site. One of the co-founders came in to respond, apologized for the mediocrity and then posted a link to his companies job listings for me to take a look at.

I’ve told friends in the past that they’re wrong for thinking their passive silence will improve the product experience. The checks and balances my friend are definitely not in place and it’s becoming a fairly large problem.

        1. It’s endemic. As nepotism and “networking” becomes the norm people are gaining access to positions without having any real world experience to support the jobs they’ve been assigned. The degradation of corporate American is the result of the good old boy network and the passing off of HR to computers that read resumes for keywords.
