Winter 2010 – Spring 2011: The ARCH Basketball mistake

I’ve been involved with basketball for almost half of my life. It was only natural for me to want to make a basketball shoe. I had already made a hoops shoe with SHO-SHOT Athletics and I sold 1200 pair. It took almost a year, but I did it. The thing was this time I understood that Nike controls 94% of the basketball footwear market and that I was going to be fighting an uphill battle.

The worst part of this was that I had sold 120 pair of running shoes and instead of making more running shoes, I dumped the profit into the basketball samples. Really bad mistake that drained the company and forced me into selling various brands instead of continuing to brand myself.

Enough of that here are the pics of the samples that made me a dumb entrepreneur. I write this to say that maybe your feedback can help me get back on track. The hoops samples are dope, but I don’t think it’s a smart idea to pursue which is why I’ve moved back to the CG. Here are the pics. Technology The first two pair feature outsoles that utilize foam and a flexible medial for smaller players. The second two use 3D which is my theory of how air should be used in a shoe. I placed holes that ran from one side to the other creating a pocket of air that adjusts to the amount of air a player displaces. I really like these samples, but chances are this shoe will never see the sun.
