I created an acronym for COMUNITYmade when I discovered the brand last year: PLUSH
Premium
Luxury
Unique
Socially Responsible
Handmade
I was going through the process of creating a custom shoe with the team at COMUNITYmade before the virus sent us all to our rooms for an unspecified amount of time. Everyday since I’ve been away from the world, I’ve been thinking about how I was going to stroll back into society once this lockdown ends. One of the first things I want to do is go and eat some really good food at one of Memphis’ amazing restaurants. I’m hoping they are all doing well. I went out of my way to buy all of the Kung Fu Wings at Sidestreet Burgers (one of our locally owned restaurants, Chef Mah hooked me up with two giant trays after he shared on Facebook that he needed to sell them. Peep the picture below.).
I’ve been updating the website by moving sneaker videos from my YouTube to the site. This has made my homepage Nike heavy which typically isn’t the case. I have to adjust the business model since I’m not leaving the house except to buy food. This means my primary business of sneaker resell is dead. I’ve focused the business on driving traffic to increase ad and affiliate revenue. I am writing articles like this because I like to keep my site diverse, but most of the posts that generate ad revenue and affiliate sales happens with my Nike videos. I’ve added over 30 posts in the last few days. I’m getting back to my roots by sharing the Rainbow Traction.
There is an obvious design reference for Nike heads who see this model. It looks like an upscale version of the 97. The waves around the side creates an automatic allusion, but the similarities should stop there. This shoe is a handmade model with premium materials and the embroidery here is on par with a Huishan Zhang embroidered dress. There are minute details from the cross stitching connecting the leather pull tab to the heel counter, to the leather lining that places this model in a category of luxury without the luxury price.
While it’s easy to dismiss the model based on unfamiliarity, there isn’t any way possible for someone who looks down at your shoes to think that what you’re wearing doesn’t have value. This made in Downtown Los Angeles masterpiece can be recreated in any color you decide as a custom pair:

I’m already having a pair of custom COMUNITYmade Traction designed to wear once we are able to get outside and enjoy the world again. I’m also thinking about having this model made in a darker shade with a black upper and muted colors from dark grey to white with gum soles.
