The Merrell Ashford Mid Canvas is an alternative to the sneaker boot trend that is taking over athletic footwear. While Nike and Vans are entering the ‘outdoor’ category via hiking boot options, and Timberland still carries the same weight in urban hiking, I a more professional option was available so I set out to find something that could be dressed up, but still perform and be rugged enough for the cold winter months. The Ashford mid features a herringbone lined inside with canvas and on the medial and lateral sides with a seamless toe. The midsole is a firm, lightweight EVA with cushioned air and the outsole is heavy, lugged, rubber which captures traction quickly when entering a space from the wet outdoors. The shoe also rings up at a cool 140.00 vs more expensive options.
