I recently ordered sweatshirts for my family from Know Definition; a Memphis based design company owned by Charlisha Renata. The foundation of her concepts are inspirational and motivational quotes and commentary to empower the African-American community. While the gear is dope, it’s her customer service and website that should get the shine. Far too often when small Black businesses launch, the sites are flooded with pre-orders and the site sits in maintenance for far too long. The owners give more time to social media as opposed to building both their following on social platforms and building their own sites where they can capture information that informs future launches and connection with their fans.
Know Definition isn’t a business that I supported because it’s Black-Owned. It’s a business I supported because the concepts are amazing and the User Experience on the site was fantastic. All businesses should have easy to use interfaces and great customer service, but this was awesome because as a small Black-owned business, it makes me proud when the work is above excellent.
