Source: Push Past Quitters’ Day And Strive for More In 2022
Me either. Under Armour is working to make sure you don’t celebrate Quitter’s Day this year. What is QD? “Quitters Day is the second Friday in January when people are most likely to quit their resolutions and revert to old habits and routines.” I wish this was a live video instead of post, because I’d ask, “How many of you have already stopped working on that New Year’s Resolution?” My wife and I have a white board. To keep ourselves honest we write the week of workouts on the board and place checks next to our names when we complete the tasks. In the morning, we have movement, and in the evening, we do weight training. My wife has implemented a calorie tracking app into her goals. Today is the second Friday and we both knocked out our movement (cardio, running, dancing, boxing, etc) and we have leg day tonight. I’m pretty sure we will stay committed to our goals, but we have accountability.
Under Armour decided to give athletes access to a few trainers with words of advice for going beyond Quitter’s Day. Use the source link to read more, but I wanted to share this bit of info from Victoria Brown:
Think outside of the box! There is no such thing as a bad workout! We have this idea ingrained in us that in order to be successful we have to show up for our fitness goals for an hour or 45 minutes each session, and it just isn’t the case. You can get a great workout in 20 minutes if that’s all you have time for, or all you can mentally take for the day. I would also say to adapt an “up until now” mindset. Just because your Resolutions didn’t stick in the past doesn’t mean it always has to be that way. It has been that way, up until now, but you are responsible for how the story unfolds moving forward. Start where you are, don’t be hard on yourself, and keep stepping- every day you will get a little closer to your goals.
Without reading Victoria’s quote, when my wife and I laid out our goals, we realized that doing 45 minutes in one go is difficult for an active lifestyle. Breaking up our day into 10-20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes of high intensity weight training in the evening has made our fitness goals manageable. Victoria nailed it with her comment that you can get a great workout in 20. You can also get a great workout if you go high intensity. Whatever it is you do, I hope you push past Quitter’s Day.
