There are always comparisons to be made in the world of running. When a brand decides to create the best marathon trainer in the world, the research and development tends to collide with the ability to market and sell a product intended for athletes looking to break records. Technical marathon trainers tend to be expensive. An average price of $250 dollars is expected. Is It the Tech?
adidas may have broke the mold with their latest model the Adios Pro Evo 1. The trainer rings up at $500 bucks. The immediate response is this could be either a gimmick or there is a method to the madness. Solely analyzing the tech, the Adios Pro Evo1 features an outsole made of liquid rubber. Newsflash: all sneakers are made of liquid rubber. Here there is a clear difference in design. There are typically traction designs on the outsole which should provide grip. adidas’ liquid rubber appears to be modeled after racing slicks. The team delivered a new Lightstrike Foam, but by their own description the sneaker is stripped down to only the necessities. There isn’t a sockliner, and the Evo 1 barely weighs 138grams.
Method or Madness?
I don’t need a marathon shoe. My running schedule is 1-2 miles when I do cardio, but I want to try the Evo1 because of the price. Is that weird? The more expensive something is, the more attention it gets. Is the price justified? The Adizero Prime X Strung is the closest in price to the Evo1. It’s $300 dollars and sell through is strong. adidas has both madness and method at work with this release. The model reminds me of the Zoom TurboX % arrival for Nike in 2017 after their Breaking2 campaign. This is important because adidas hadn’t really showed any life and seemed bogged down with old, uninspired tech in Boost. With their recent return to form in marketing and an amazing season from Noah Lyles to celebrate, the Three Stripes is sharpening its performance running claws.
