It’s not just a sneaker blog
Source: What Is Hypebeast and How Did It Get to an IPO? – Racked
Yesterday I dropped this video:
The reason I decided to drop this video because I realized that I’ve been hustling backwards and so have most of us in the sneaker culture. 12 years ago I started a basketball website which led to my sneaker website.
The point is 12 years ago I ran one of the biggest basketball sites in the country that dealt primarily with highlighting under the radar players. As a matter of fact, I was pretty much spot on when my team invited this kid to the camp and featured him (to the left Isaiah Canaan -Chicago Bulls PG see my old sneaker company and CCB logo?). He’s in the NBA now.
Anyway, my site got over a million visits a year for 5 years. This video is a part of the reason the website was so big. College coaches could get a look at a player without having to beg for video. More important, I was videotaping guys that were considered the cream of the crop. In most instances. Here is Isaiah’s video from the camp. Everyone there knew he was special.
I sent over 100 guys to college on scholarship, but I was all about the players. I didn’t capitalize on this in the least. I has almost 1000 basketball videos on the site, but I didn’t capitalize on that either. I was running at the same time as Hypebeast, but I didn’t pay attention. Now that I am paying attention it could be too late.
This post from Racked does the best job of giving the details on how a sneaker blog became a publicly traded property in China and now has a worth of over 200 million US dollars.
If you don’t understand what I’m writing here, maybe this will help:
YOU GOT YOUR STUPID ASS ON FACEBOOK, IG, SNAP, GIVING AWAY INFORMATION, PICTURES, AND SHARING INFORMATION AND A FUCKING SNEAKER BLOG IPO’d THIS YEAR FOR 200 MILLION FUCKING DOLLARS!
I’m yelling at myself primarily because my basketball site should have been in this category, but no mentors, and not listening to my wife screwed me. Stop screwing yourself. I can’t believe I’m about to say this, Be like Hypebeast.
