A few days ago I wrote a post about Puma x Trapstar and expressed whether I thought Puma’s fusion of Jamaican inspired sportswear and Trapstar streetwear would actually translate into sales with guys for Puma.

adidas has created a similarly inspired collection, but this is why adidas is outperforming everyone right now. In their presentation they use Chronixx as the model. The reggae artists has a new project on the horizon and lends credibility and authenticity to the adidas Spezial collection.
Puma had an opportunity to do something similar. They have the most recognizable Jamaican brand under their umbrella, but instead they connect with a London Streetwear brand to create a collection. They can’t use Usain Bolt in a Trapstar collab for obvious reasons. Usain is not going to align his brand with Trapstar and he doesn’t need to. Had Puma actually sat down with the superstar athlete they could have come up with a better presentation. Right now adidas wins this battle hands down.
