Admittedly I know very little about soccer. I only played for one year, and then my kids played for a few years. Living in Cali for so long I did enjoy hitting the football field to watch our school soccer team win games where I coached. I also, like everyone a few years ago, realized that Tim Howard, a fellow Memphian, was dope and I watched during the Olympics. I have a casual interest in the game and if it’s on, I will watch it. Saying all of that, I do know who Paul Pogba is because of adidas. I also realize how powerful the beautiful game is abroad.
I think with the NFL constantly running into issues with CTE, there could be an opportunity here in the US for more growth with the MLS. The problem is adidas as the sponsor has to take a more active role in the development and marketing of the sport. It’s the one place they have left in team sports to offset Nike and Under Armour.
This is the first collection for Paul Pogba and it’s actually a clean look. The style falls into the athleisure market which is on trend and includes on the field footwear and off the field complimentary Ace 17+ Purecontrol. Adidas left out the Boost, which is a mistake, but the black and gold colorway is eye catching and should appeal to fans and those who don’t know Pogba.
