Originally planning to announce its new training shoes at an ASICS Innovation Summit in Tokyo, the company has taken its shoe innovation into Virtual Reality, for ASICS’ first product preview in VR. Media, athletes and shoppers around the world can experience the three new shoes up close and personal – in the virtual innovation lab of the ASICS Institute of Sport Science.
ASICS and Japan will have to wait to show the world what they are capable of with the Olympics being postponed until July 23, 2021. Right now the team is delivering shoes that were most certainly created with the Olympics in mind. The Meta Series is for Volleyball, Sprinting and Distance. The drop is important as every company is in the battle against the dominance being shown by Nike runners in their 4% and Vapor shoes. While Nike has transitioned their tech into spikes as well, ASICS has created the first ‘spikeless’ sprint shoe utilizing a carbon fiber plate
ASICS’s unique technology eliminates the conventional spike pins and reduces the time between pin piercing and removal when grounding. In addition, energy loss when the pin comes off is reduced, realizing a structure that allows efficient transmission of force.
