While it would be easy to discuss LeBron to the Lakers, there are brands making small moves to build a connection to the niche areas of athletics. Zhang may have taken an L today at Wimbledon, but she also made history as the first female tennis player from China signed to ASICS. This move would have been bolder had her Wimbledon appearance turned out better, but as it stands this is a move that is important on a number of levels for ASICS as the brand continues to develop its footprint in major markets where other brands appear to be holding steady.
