Launched in 2011 as a leather goods based business, Beckett Simonon is another direct-to-consumer platform creating quality, hand crafted footwear. I discovered the brand because the social media cookies realized I was searching for smaller brands. Beckett Simonon is utilizing Google Adwords to deliver images and information on their brand. I felt the need to share information on the company after reading this quote on the site:

It’s smarter to wait a little bit for an affordable and well made product that will last for years, than getting immediately something you’ll need to replace in six months. You’ll save money, look better and be happier.

Geller Trainers water-repellent suede

In previous posts on new footwear companies I avoided discussing what I perceived as opportunities. With Beckett Simonon I feel that the brand has at its disposal the ability to play around with a more price friendly version of No.One. If you’ve visited this site then you’ve seen posts on No.One:

Dope S–t I Like | Introducing: The 100 Year Alpha & Bravo from No.One

No.One is encountering issues due to COVID-19, but they already hit those issues because the cost of the footwear was on par with Off-White and other luxury brands. This created a problem for fans of the kicks seen on the site. The average price of the No.One was 650 dollars a pair. I used the Alpha article here because Beckett Simonon’s Geller is very similar in style and in quality, but at a mere 149.00 Beckett Simonon has room to elevate the materials and still ring up at a competitive pricepoint.

Morgen Trainers full-grain leather & suede

Check out this video of the Morgen Trainers being made and it shows you the process that I was going through with COMUNITYmade prior to the quarantine. Companies like this who take the time to create quality footwear have very small margins and it’s on those of us in the community who tend to purchase more than 5 kicks a year to spend some of our money with companies who are trying to offer a product that may hurt their growth. Think about it, when you make a shoe with this type of handmade quality you’re setting yourself up to only sell one or two pair to a customer every few years. There isn’t any hype around beautiful design. There is admiration and I admire Beckett Simonon. Take a few to click on the pictures or the link at the lead to visit the site.
