Jones Reclassification Should Pay Dividends

Tyler Jones, formerly of ECS, will reclassify into the 2026 class next season and attend Christ School in Arden, North Carolina. The 6’3 combo guard played all year at the lead guard position for his high school team propelling them to a state tournament appearance for the first time in over 5 years.  Three major categories increased including points per game, assist and rebounding numbers, all up from last season while his responsibility became bigger. His high school’s offense ran through him and while he had to shoulder a little more, the production upticked which showed growth and excitement for his future.

He has become a very intriguing 2-way guard who shines defensively, able to guard both guard positions while still being effective scoring it while not searching for his own offense. He’s patient with the ball in his hands which allows him to get it to teammates but also knows when to turn it on and take more of the burden of scoring if need be. His first step, ability to blow by and finish over the top with athleticism that pops, makes you respect his jumper. He can create off the dribble, into the pull up, he gets good elevation on his shot and can play as a catch and shoot where he’s ready if it’s there.

I had a chance to speak with his mother (Managua Hunt) about the decision and she had this to say about her son’s new school, “It’s a really good program and it’s still real school so he’s going to have to keep his academics up and I’m more concerned about that.” The decision wasn’t an easy one. Jones was a major part of ECS and played a big role since he started there but with an opportunity like this, it wasn’t something that could be passed up. With this move, Jones puts himself into the conversation as one of the really good guards to follow nationally in this class. As I’ve said before, I don’t think he’s done growing either. 6’4, 6’5 isn’t out of the question for him. He’s already heard from a lot of division 1 schools; I think his recruitment is going to pick up substantially.

I think it’s a great move for him which should allow his recruitment profile to elevate even more.
