Any brand delivering footwear in today’s era, even brands who didn’t exist in the heyday of sneakers, have to develop staple sneaker designs based on the classic footwear which led to athletic shoes being worn as casual wear. Brandblack’s latest model is whimsically named “No Name”. The sneaker is a throwback, retro court sneaker with elevated materials. The classic cupsole immediately recalls skate models, but the upper blends Stan Smith with the Puma Suede and pulls from the Nike Cortez with an unfinished tongue. The question becomes why would a consumer choose a more expensive court model ($160) when the Stan Smith, Suede and Cortez all arrive at under 100 for traditional models, but with the recent release of the Pharrell Samba Collection this might be the best time for the No Name to enter the market.
