I don’t want the reality to become true, but when I lived in California, we were in a drought for over ten years. A recent deluge temporarily solved the problem, but due to the way the global economy operates, like Thanos, global warming is inevitable. This means drier, hotter summers and seasons completely out of whack. “More than 25 percent of the Earth will experience serious drought and desertification by the year 2050 if the attempts made by the Paris climate agreement to curb global warming are not met, according to a new study by the journal Nature Climate Change” (Newsweek).
This is not the way Erem probably wants an article about the company started. It would be cooler if I stated “the family who started Timberland, is launching Erem Boots using a Biocircular strategy.” That sounds more approachable and it’s easier to read. I could add that the shoes will perform equally as well on date night as they do in desert environments. I could write about the style and look of the boots, which really do look incredible. I could dive in on the fact that the boots have 70% recycled content in the outsole and that the method of make allows for a lifetime guarantee for materials and workmanship. I guess I just stated all of those things, right? Those are all important and cool details, but my first thought when I read about Erem was, “They are building a boot for the future we are quickly moving towards.” I couldn’t get that out of my head.
I’ve made it a part of my site strategy to be more thoughtful about the information I share in regard to the sneaker industry. Erem fits the bill because what they are building is rooted in a smarter method of make and in supporting the issues around “desertification”.

As I write this on Thanksgiving day, I am thankful for peers who have explained to me how the footwear industry contributes to environmental problems. I’m thankful for the ability to share information about how dope the people are in this industry and I’m thankful for new footwear and apparel companies who are leading with sustainability over style. Erem is the perfect new brand to write about today and their transparency should become an industry standard and goal.
Check out the interesting sections on the Erem site and enjoy the day.
