The first event of the MUS track and field season kicked off on 3-26-24 and there were three Mile Split Silver Elite Performances:
Pole Vault Finals – Girls
10-7 | Campbell Pallera | Evangelical Christian School |
1600 Meter Run Finals – Boys
4:18.61 | Joe Edwards | Christian Brothers High School |
Pole Vault Finals
14-1 | McEwen Taylor | Memphis University School |
The rest of the events were loaded with 18 scheduled teams and 16 in attendance. The team winners on the day in first through third were:
1 | Northpoint Christian School | 55
1 | Briarcrest Christian School | 55
3 | St. Agnes Academy | 54 |
Standout performances happened across the board. Owen Sharp of MUS hit 6-2 on the high jump, but had 6-4 cleared when he clipped the bar with his feet on several occasions. The extended event began at 4-10 which led to a number of jumps tiring the legs of all athletes involved. In the Girl’s High Jump underclassmen ruled and took the first four spots, freshman Ejeme Ataga won at 4-10 and Elizabeth Foster of Lakeland Prep landed at 4-8. The field was rounded out by a new Anchor Point Program where super sophomores Emmalee Lentile and Victoria Burns landed at 4-8 and 4-6 respectively (Burns video below).
Anchor Point with only 4 athletes ranked higher than a number of loaded high school programs. Lentile took second place in the 100m hurdles also. The 100 in boys and girls was won by Ava Castleberry of Northpoint Christian and Malik Truitt of ECS. The first event of the season moved along quickly and was well organized by the host MUS squad.
