Sometimes I want to delve into the research on a group and dig to find out more information before posting a Get To Know. Every now and then, I want to just dig the music and tell you all to just dig this shit. Put it on, sit back with a glass of your favorite, or pop on your headphones and read something interesting and just listen.
I was walking into a Footaction store today and through the noise I hear the horns for Jay Z’s “Roc Boys (And The Winner Is)“
but no words… which for me is a good thing. I’m not the biggest Jay Z fan, and I always vote Ether over Takeover (and Mos Def’s Rapeover over Takeover) but I digress… I walk in and I’m like, “Damn, that’s dope.” I ask my guy Will to let me know who cut that instrumental. He heads to the back and comes back out with, “The Menahan Street Band.” I put that in my mental Rolodex and now we are here.
I’ve been on Youtube and then I of course hit Amazon and thought to myself, “I can’t keep this to myself,” so here you go everyone. I’m not going into a crazy amount of detail, because this is one of those times where I want you to add the group on each of their platforms and download their music. I want you to do this while you listen to “Make The Road by Walking,” which certainly is a heavy title. To me this makes the song a lot better than what Jay Z did over the track. How do you become a trendsetter? How do you leave a mark? You can’t really tell someone to do something; you have to show them. In other words you have to make the road by walking.
