I haven’t been to Dubai since I was a really young man. At that time it was amazing, but since the 90s Dubai has become a beacon of cool. When I visited the dopest thing you could do was buy 18K gold rings and jewelry from a vending machine and buy jeans that looked like Cross Colors, but really wasn’t. On top of that when I bought Prince’s “Lovesexy” album, they added pants to Prince and changed the name of the album. As I write this I remember a few “other” stories like getting locked in the mall when the adhan called for Salah at around noon, that’s a different story.
In the US sneaker cons are becoming a bit played as the culture is no longer at the forefront, only the exchange of dollars and kicks. In Dubai, they are pulling together a celebration of the culture and kicking it off will be legendary Bobbito Garcia. Click the 7days Dubai link to read more.
