From 2005 to 2016 I owned Sho-Shot and ARCH. Yeah, I know you’ve never heard of those companies or the shoes I made. All of those years I didn’t get a chance to wear sneakers from other brands because I felt it was hypocritical to do so. I was selling tons of sneakers in my online shop, but I didn’t keep them. Before running my basketball website and sneaker biz I was a high school basketball head coach who made his players run cross country. In San Diego the sports program funding was cut years ago. There aren’t any buses for travel and while there are small stipends you have to really pay to play. Where our school was, I didn’t want to ask our kids to pay any money so I came up with fundraisers. What does this have to do with Brooks?

I wore the Brooks Beast when I gained weight in the Navy before I played college basketball. It was always one of the best running shoes I wore. I have never worn Brooks casually, but that might be changing. I know that companies like Nike and adidas sponsor high school teams, but I just discovered that Brooks is taking a truly hands on approach to a niche sport. Nike and adidas sponsor high schools in hope that they will sign the next big superstar. Donating money to cross country is an act that produces very little brand loyalty and it definitely doesn’t translate into kids at the schools wearing the shoes. Brooks is doing something about as pure and helpful as a corporation can do in the sports world. It makes me proud to read this :

The grant each school will receive includes training and racing shoes, racing uniforms and warm-ups for a 30-person team and $2,000 to help with expenses including pay-to-play fees, meet entries, transportation costs, etc. Through the Booster Club, Brooks will have invested more than $1.2 million in cash and product by the end of the year, providing for upwards of 3,500 young runners since the program’s 2015 inception.

I often overlook Brooks on this site because their offerings in lifestyle aren’t deemed cool enough to cover. This site doesn’t really do performance reviews so the Levitate has to be a special release before I drop a post about them… however I have to find a way to spread the love. This year Brooks is looking to add more schools to their sponsorship program:

Staying true to our purpose of inspiring everyone to run and be active and to spread cheer during the holiday season, we’re calling on you to help expand the Booster Club in 2019 to benefit even more runners and schools. Through our partnership with Charity Miles beginning Nov. 16, you can use the app to join the running community in an attempt to run 10,000 miles. Once runners reach that goal,  we will unlock a donation that will provide for Booster Club grants to two more schools next year beyond the 25 we will already donate to. Download the Charity Miles app here.

I know there isn’t a dope pair of kicks to share in this one, but this is one of the few posts where you will read my writing, PLEASE SHARE THIS ONE. If you don’t want to share my page, then click through to Brooks and share directly from their site.
