I initially didn’t want to comment on this topic. It wasn’t until I read Jason Murphy’s post on LinkedIn that raised the issue of White Privilege. In a number of circumstances Nike either forced the resignation or had employees federally prosecuted for actions that occurred within their berm. In many of those instances, when Black and Brown men were involved, they didn’t get to walk away quietly. Granted in the case of the IRS case I mentioned on Errol Andam, he used fake names and blatantly defrauded Nike.
However, a point was raised in the comment section of Jason’s post, “Nike knew about the resale business and basically okayed it in 2018.” This could lead us into a different discussion on resale and Nike, but instead of looking at that I want to look at what’s at the root of all resale, Consumer Behavior.
Resale used to exist as a means of finding hard to get kicks. Resale now exists because sneaker culture has zero desire to wear different brands. A head used to be judged on their sneaker diversity, now a head is respected for having every Jordan 1.
Instead of remaining focused on the initial topic, I wanted to share some options and look at how the market has shifted away from trying other brands. This could be more detailed, but there are a lot of thoughts on this and they barely scratch the surface. Sneaker resale is the dope game and if we want to go there, it could turn into Snowfall.
