I’ve long stated that brands are beginning to capitalize on the cracks in Nike’s foundation. As the Swoosh removes itself from retail, smaller brands are recognizing their heritage products are just as dope as the retro products coming from Nike. The problem is these smaller brands never attempted to present themselves as equally important to sneaker culture. Sure, they have done collabs and specially themed sneakers, but there haven’t been many brands who thought highly enough of their retro models to attempt packs including two pair. Nike had a run of combining Jordan Retro models in what they called Defining Moment Packs (DMP). They had the perfect opportunity with the celebrating of Michael Jordan’s storied career.

There haven’t been many “packs” like these from other brands where you could grab two pair in one display box. “The Collector’s Pack features the Jazz 81 and the Shadow 6000 reimagined in premium leather in their original heritage colourways. Presented in a specially designed box, they cannot be bought separately and are set to be true collector’s items.” Saucony has made sure to allow for purchasing the sneaker separately, but to venture into this space is a smart strategy in testing just how much shelf space Nike is leaving behind as the company shifts to a more Direct relationship with the consumer. It will be interesting to monitor the sell through on this CP from Saucony.

Note: when I was in Dubai in the 90s I was rocking the Shadow. Sneaker culture used to be about diversity in your closet, not everyone rocking the same pair and flexing on the Gram. Check out this old school shot, lol:
