The Mixed 4 x 400m race is one of the most compelling events in track and field. If you’ve never seen the event, here is how it works: two men and two women make up the team. Yesterday’s event was led by the men and alternated. Allyson Felix ran the second leg of the race (starts at 3:10 of the video below). The event is difficult to field as it’s a final event early in the Championships and can contribute to fatigue who have to run other events through the weekend. Due to this the U.S. didn’t field the best team it could but going into the final lap the U.S. held the lead.
