1984 laid the groundwork for the sneaker battles that took shape over the next 30 years. It was an Olympic year. Sneaker brands were battling to sponsor the event because it was being held in Los Angeles. What happened during that year with Nike, an upstart company backing some of the best athletes in the competition has become a part of sneaker lore. Los Angeles put its best foot forward by building what is known as Exposition Park where the opening and closing of the Games were held. The shoe is named after Expo Park and features the simple, laid back, beach aesthetic the brand has come to be known for.
