I’m a Knicks fan so any colorway like this makes me excited. That doesn’t mean that this colorway is good. As a historical record Knicks colored shoes never perform very well. The Uptempo Knicks is probably the exception. As a matter of fact a quick check on shoes that have this colorway can show some very interesting outcomes. I guess it doesn’t help that the Charlotte Bobcats (now the Charlotte Hornets), and OKC Thunder also share colorways with the Knicks and neither of those teams are the Warriors… soooooo let’s check it real quick (after several years and no longer being available the price should increase):

Knicks Jordan 5 Low = below retail

Knicks Jordan 1 2013 = retail

Spizike Knicks = way below retail

Any Melo Knicks = don’t even look

OKC Why Not = below retail

You get the picture. What does this mean for the Jordan 5 International? A shoe that represents a little known story about MJ’s trip to Barcelona… Should You Buy To Flip?

*** I’ve been neglecting to say that I’m writing these for those people who don’t have a hookup or discount.

Since I do 3 checks before my decision I will weight them on a scale of 1-9. The max points on a scale = +3

*** New addition to the rating system: Tier 1: 0-25% = +1    Tier 2: 26-55% = +2     Tier 3: 56% and up is +3 (These additions are in regard to the ROI)

First check: My first check is always with Flight Club. The shop remains the epitome of resale and my FC adjustment is always accurate. FC the shoe in stock. As a matter of fact you can use the link above to go to the page. The shoe has been on FC for a while and right now this is how it breaks down:

Retail: 190 + tax = 200.00 (really around 206, but I’m trying to help the cause here.)

The Jordan 5 International is on FC at an average price of 180.

My FC check is an obvious one and if I’m starting this way I don’t think it will get any better.

Second check: Let’s jump into the eBay Check. You can use this link to visit the eBay page. There are currently (8/24/2018) 214 listings. There have been 93 pair sold. I always take the average of the first 5 shoes without ‘offers accepted’.

8/23/2018 = 188.00

8/23/2018 = 199.99

8/22/2018 = 169.99

8/22/2018 = 169.99

8/22/2018 = 190.00

Total: 917.97 / 5 = 183.59 At this point if the total was above the retail price of 190 plus tax I would begin to break down the ROI tier. Since there is obviously no ROI tier this shoe gets a

Third check: My final check is usually a Twitter check to gauge interest, but sometimes you have to ask yourself if that extra minute is really worth the time… Yep it is The Twitter search doesn’t reveal hardly any people asking each other about the drop at all. The only tweets are from sneaker shops. That’s not a good thing.

The third check also includes my visit to StockX. While this release didn’t even rate a post on Foot Locker’s release calendar, maybe the people on StockX will save this shoe.

Nope, they didn’t save it; not one bit.

My final ruling: There was once a time when I was writing Should You Buy To Flip for almost every release. There was also a time where I wouldn’t kill a shoe. The lowest rating I typically gave was a 3. I can’t do that anymore. This is a much different e-commerce world we are in.

This is the first time I’ve written a SYBTF in over a year. The result is basically the same as it has always been since around 2016. Jordan Brand GRs no longer have a resale value when purchased from a retailer. The only shoes that garner that type of interest are premium, hyped, limited releases (in most cases). This speaks more to a change in the market structure that no one is accounting for… it’s a change I’m building an analysis and presentation for.

I guess the question that should be important is how will this shoe fare at retail?

Do you remember the P51 Camo Air Jordan 5? That shoe dropped forever ago in terms of retail. It’s still in stores marked down. Does that mean it’s a bad shoe? No. The majority of the shoes sold through on the day of release. After the release date however, it died on the vine and will more than likely see some RTV soon. The International 5, like the International 3, will still be in stores six months from now although the release isn’t as big as other retro drops.

My final ruling? 0
