There are a host of issues with third party resale platforms. This is not a deal breaker for people using StockX, but for sellers who move more than the casual pair, it’s frustrating to get returns when the website fails to offer the buyer other options outside of the perfect deadstock release. It’s a common understanding that sneakers can arrive from Nike with slices from box openers and with crushed edges from store rooms.
It’s a completely different issue when shoes get damaged during shipment. In this video I show a box that arrived from StockX and I raise the question that if my box arrived like this, both the customer and the seller may have damages happening that aren’t on them.
I’m working on a paper on eBay, StockX and Amazon and I’ve found that eBay is only a few moves from usurping StockX’s phenomenal growth. I also make a prediction at the end of this video that StockX will be implementing a shipping charge to sellers in the near future and the third party site (Grailed, GOAT, eBay, Kixify) that is ready to jump on the issues StockX isn’t taking the time to address will create another shift by sellers similar to what took place in 2011 from eBay to Amazon and in 2018 from eBay to StockX.
