New Balance has been nailing their collabs and releases this year. Their use of signature athletes, collections with Coco and Sydney, rival the work of any brand in the industry. Their collabs with Casablanca have sold out and hit resale. The Joe FreshGoods pair is so popular, Nike heads are actually dropping 300- 400 a pair, but what happens when inspiration could lead to an issue with Nike and Jordan Brand? Or am I seeing something that isn’t there?
A peer of mine hit me with a statement, “How did New Balance get away with this?” My first thought was the Lindor 1 doesn’t really look like the Air Jordan 20. Then I thought about the John Geiger lawsuit against Nike. I also considered what happened with Warren Lotas. New Balance is a small company, so there probably won’t be any problems here. Besides, maybe he was seeing things and persuaded me to see similarities… Nah, this is kind of obvious.
As litigious as the Swoosh has been this year in trademark and copyright battles with customizers and brands, you have to wonder if this one will ring up and register with the team in Oregon?
