Sneaker culture is forever linked to Delorean for one reason, Marty McFly’s Nike Air Mag laced up in Back to the Future. Sneakers and cars have always been at the forefront of the lifestyle around kicks. When sneakers became popular, they were tied to sports. The Puma Suede was the first sneaker coveted by sneaker fans. The imagery tied to the Suede was Walt Clyde Frazier stepping out of a Rolls Royce with a fur coat on. As Hip-Hop became more prominent, EPMD album covers would show Erick and Parrish standing with their cars rocking Nike sneakers. Music videos continued this connection with MC Lyte jumping out of Jettas to chase down “Sam” in the “Paper Thin” video. Lyte was rocking sneakers and apparel capturing the bond of fly cars and fly clothes. Nothing stimulated the imagination the way the DeLorean has all of these years. Now, DeLorean is reborn after a 35-year absence.

The Delorean Alpha V recaptures the classic Gullwing styled doors with a modern take on the classic car every kid hung on their walls after watching Doc and Marty fly off leaving a trail of flames. The company will explain their absence as they begin to promote the Alpha V:

THE UNTOLD STORY:

The evolution of the DeLorean brand played out behind closed doors. In 2022, we unearthed a hidden timeline revealing the evolution of the DeLorean brand. Interpreting fact grounded our focus.

Only by showing a full picture can we truly understand the journey to today.

The untold story shares the missing years. Under the name DMC-24, also known as the DMC200 or Project 831/1, John DeLorean’s vision for the brand continued. That hidden timeline allowed us to reimagine the DeLorean brand for the next Century.

In a world where the future is nothing like we imagined in 1985, the return of the Delorean is a hopeful harbinger. With gas prices hitting like Mike Tyson before Buster Douglas, electric vehicles definitely feel like a real option, not just something for the rich. Companies like Rivian and Tesla are occupying the dialogue, but everyday brands from Hyundai and Kia to Ford (who has delivered the MachE and the soon to release F-150 Lightening), are making it easier to consider an electric vehicle, but we aren’t quite there yet. Over the years people have forgotten that the DMC DeLorean was not the most reliable car created. Reliability isn’t important here. This is a passion play. Like everyone else, I’m only interested in hopefully driving one in the near future. Until then, I’m dropping these pics and directing you to the site:
