The Dexter vs Bellevue game was only a 9-point game at the half. Dexter used an aggressive defense to flip the switch and turned the second half into hooper’s paradise. The 3rd quarter saw Dexter outscoring Bellevue 26-9 behind the play of RJ Reynolds, Khiyon Jones, Gavin TaylorTrey Moore and Montreal Hurt. The quartet played like a jazz group as they were instrumental in a huge outburst. Defeating a Bellevue team who will be good as they continue to gel.

Dexter’s guard play stands out and I think it’s as good a guard group as any team in middle school. One thing about guards at this stage, 6th-8th grade, particularly older guards, you can make a lot of noise in any year. I think Dexter will do that this season. Reynolds sticks out because he can score it in the half court or in transition. He understands when it’s time to be more aggressive with his offense. Jones is really crafty; you can tell he loves to play. He pushes pace and will force the action, but he isn’t forcing it offensively. He has a really good feel for how to play and understands when to get his teammates involved.  He’s also one of the more vocal young players at this age. That’s going to be a positive in becoming a true floor general. Taylor can hit the 3 comfortably, handle, rebound and flashed some athleticism trying to dunk it once off a steal. Honestly, he could be the key for them all season long. Teams are going to definitely key in on Reynolds but if he’s playing well along with Jones and Hurt, I can see Dexter being a lot of trouble for anyone.
