Breathe in. Breathe out. Repeat. Relax. Sink into this moment. You there? Good. This is the place inhabited by Ojai-based artist, dreamer, and self-proclaimed “imperfect human” Daren Thomas Magee. VISUALS — JESS PURPLE / DAREN THOMAS MAGEE

Looking fly was once the root of all fashion choices. As years pass and the kids get older, style becomes less relevant. In the words of the Progressive Insurance commercial, we become our dads. The belly becomes harder to hide and black sandals and white socks feel just fine to run to the store in. In some instances, old heads attempt to recapture their youth and the result is a cringy blend of “nope” combined with a hard headshake of “you tried it.”
Date nights, when the happen, consist of grabbing something that’s been buried in the closet for ten years and spraying too much starch on it, so the wrinkles go away. Footwear options range from a bad looking pair of trainers, or some black or brown unpolished shoe wiped off with a towel. The Steve Harvey suit isn’t even worn by Steve Harvey anymore and people don’t want to get it tailored. The fashion industry realizes this and makes every point to focus on youth culture, until it doesn’t. Taylor Stitch’s latest collection “The Go Slow Capsule is a perfect distillation of the place where our creative roads merge. It’s a dusty crossroads somewhere in the high desert, bathed in rosy sunlight and perfumed with the scent of cactus flowers.” The Go Slow Collection consists of a few items of apparel, but it’s beautifully crafted and easily elevates your closet from stiff cotton to lightweight hemp embroidered with classic desert hues.
Taylor Stitch collaborated with, “Ojai-based artist, dreamer, and self-proclaimed “imperfect human” Daren Thomas Magee,” who just turned 40. That number is a difficult for a lot of sneakerheads who have been trained that Supreme and Js make you dope. Aging gracefully isn’t an easy thing to do, but it’s even harder when guys feel like they shouldn’t care so much about their appearance outside of church and work. Here is an important bit of insight, a lack of care around your appearance may not mean much personally, but it’s tough for spouses who remember who they fell in love with. I’ve never really voiced my opinion on the style of old heads, or the style choices of youth culture, but when I discover a collection that amplifies the wardrobe and delivers a look which can amplify your closet in a subtle manner, I have to share it.
