via Brands X Better, GREATS is part of a coalition of companies who are committed to providing aid in a time of crisis. All coalition members have pledged to donate 10% of their proceeds to charities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn more about the 10+ Movement. GREATS is donating 15% to City Harvest; NYC’s largest food rescue organization, dedicated to feeding hungry New Yorkers. A $15 donation feeds a family of three for 15 days. NYC is our home and we are doing what we can to help our community.
One thing that I didn’t think would happen, is my son taking my pairs of GREATS and adding them to his rotation. This means that I have the right to pick up another pair and more than likely it will be the Court High. Typically when a company looks to athletic wear for inspiration in sneakers, they go with basketball. That’s only natural when you consider hooping is the game that changed the shoe industry. GREATS is a new company and they don’t have a heritage line or a retro. What they decided to do was create their own heritage and while it’s not cool for me to say drop your Timbs in the summer look, I think you could with this model and you’d stay just as fly.
- Supple leather upper with suede accents built to last.
- Materials sourced from a gold rated tannery, a leader in sustainability and responsibility.
- Custom outsole partially made with recycled rubber.
- Lined with breathable soft leather.
The COURT High ‘merchandising’ on the site is an example of what I think is missing with many retailers. GREATS utilized traditional white/grey backgrounds on product pictures but on the scroll they added shots like this:
The wood creates a warmer picture. The only thing missing on this product page was a picture of a person wearing the shoe and possibly video integration. The company did add an additional note on the model explaining why the shoe was designed. I’m adding this to the description:
GREATS has crafted a classic inspired basketball design that doesn’t follow the typical mode of recreating a familiar look. It would have been easy to play around with a BRED colorway and overlays that hinted at classic Nike hoops as many luxury brands tend to do, but the company constructed a model that can easily be deconstructed and turned into a canvas model or it could feature a range of materials. The most important aspect? The giving. Bigger brands can easily cut checks and shift production, but smaller companies have to be more thoughtful as times like these can break them.
Check out the Court High and then browse the site to support small biz and to help out during the COVID-19 crisis.
