Allyson Felix had retired. She was eating chicken wings when the U.S. 4 x 400 team needed a replacement to compete for the gold in the 2022 World Championships. She answered the call and went on to help the U.S. team run a blazing time. She added another gold to her medal collection and walked off into the sunset like a gunslinger; track spikes hanging from her hip and a thankful crowd waving farewell.
Felix once adorned the walls of Nike stores throughout America. The launch of her sneaker brand arrived after mistreatment by her former sponsor. Being a world class athlete would have been enough for any athlete to hang their hat upon. Instead, she shifted from athlete to businessperson in one of the most difficult industries.
Finding a Niche
The running shoe industry is cluttered with the remains of failed brands. Saysh didn’t launch with a trainer. The company entered the market with the Saysh One a casual sneaker. Now the company is delivering a namesake sneaker which gains immediate credibility. If Allyson approved the Felix Runner, it must be good.
Made for Women, By Women
The running shoe arrives in three colors, Avalanche, Fire, and Ebony. Like a pair of Brandblack sneakers I own, the sneaker features Supercritical foam in the midsole. The foam is super-responsive and bouncy, and although I’m 235lbs it also provides support. The midsole/outsole combination here appears to be a better design than my Specter. The Specter has an elevated heel which pushes my toe into the toebox. This causes the sneaker to run small. The Felix Runner appears to be a rocker styled construction but is listed as a neutral trainer. Possibly because the stacked foam midsole doesn’t have much of a drop. Will the Felix Runner work? If website growth is an indicator of success the Saysh website traffic has grown almost 30% in the last few months. Could isolating the sneaker to women only create an issue? Is the Felix Runner a sneaker you’d consider?
