Above is a link to WTOK television who was leaving the Algix & Bloom Foam facility when my family was arriving for our tour of the plant. In the story that was being done by the news, they discuss the current situation where 21 of the beaches in Mississippi have been closed for over a week due to harmful algae blooms.
I was invited to Algix & Bloom after meeting Ryan Hunt at the Footwear Innovation Summit in Los Angeles. I had no idea that there was a plant in my region producing bioplastics from algae for products including footwear. After the Summit I vowed to learn more about sustainability and the circular economy in the footwear industry. That’s why I began The Sustainability Report.
Ryan and I were able to speak and he invited me to take a tour. I packed up the family and made the four hour trip from Memphis to Meridian and was given a crash course in how the company is producing products while also cleaning the water.
