Runners and sneaker heads alike have been impatiently waiting for the Nike Air VaporMax. The shoes will officially launch on March 26 at a retail price of $190.When the initial pictures of the shoes emerged, what intrigued me were the air pockets. Most air max sneakers released since 1987 feature air units that are usually secured in a protective midsole. With the Vapormax , the air chambers are literally connected to the uppers. Nike did this partly to lighten up the shoes and enhance the runners’s performance. I was very skeptical and thought it was a pretty stupid move from Nike in their attempt to constantly innovate. So I was doing some research on the shoes and came across the following video on Youtube.
The owner of the What’s inside channel destroyed the shoes with an electric saw to analyze the materials and its technology ( mostly the air units). According to him, it took a total of five years and 350 runners testing the VaporMax to finally come up with the desired result. The “air pockets” are manufactured in a Nike owned Oregon Plant that cost 40.5 millons to build.
My thoughts on the Nike air Vapormax:
They are Nike’s first pair of shoes with the most amount of compressed “air”, which means cushioning is going to be great. The air chambers come separated as heel and forefoot units which makes the shoes very flexible. If you watch the video, the presenter tries to cut the “air pockets” with a knife and has a hard time doing so. They are very sturdy and won’t be easily punctured, so you can rest assured. Couple this new air technology with the Flyknit and what you have is a super light sneaker with maximum cushioning. Nike is undeniably the paramount when it comes to innovation and the brand just proved it again. I’m predicting these to sell as fast as lightning strikes. Here are the two colorways that will debut on march 26.
