7 Days No Nike is not a shot at the Swoosh. After Nike’s latest quarterly report it’s clear the company has command of the entire sneaker industry. What is also evident is the brand is intent on dominating the news cycle on sneaker sites via the constant stream of releases. 7 Days No Nike is my decision to discuss a few brands that I’ve yet to buy a pair of kicks from, but I really need to because they are both functional and stylish.
I know what I’m about to write isn’t about the Synchron. It’s about the lack of diversity in the footwear choices in the U.S. I can’t buy Karhu in Memphis. As a matter of fact if I don’t find a stockists when I visit other places I don’t see Karhu. The Finnish company doesn’t really need the U.S. since a close comparison is New Balance as far as quality is concerned, but at this point I’m considering doing something I said no one should do… open a sneaker based art gallery. If you get into a business you need to do what you love. I love art and kicks and at 135.00 the Synchron Winter screams to me ‘date night fresh’ or even casual Friday fresh. Unfortunately I’m a size 13… but I can wear a size 12.5 and because there isn’t any way for me to try on the kicks before I order, I haven’t ordered. This will be a theme for the 7 Days No Nike series. I will only get to look at kicks that I think are works of sneaker art direct from the factory. The Synchron Winter Pack Junebug and Peyote is green enough to smoke (see what I did there?).
I definitely understand not carrying the shoes in Memphis. This is a Nike city, but I’m really starting to think that I could sell 12 pair a month of these non Nike sneakers I like in an art gallery setting. It’s really something to think about.
