The PG1 Chalk Burst launches April 6 at nike.com, SNKRS, Nike+ and at select retailers.
Source: Nike News – Paul George Reflects on the Launch of the PG1
The PG1 has entered the market in the same way as the Kyrie did. It’s new and exciting. The numbers of the release have been fairly limited and this has helped with the promotion of the shoe and sell through. Interestingly enough the shoe has hit the resale market which brings Nike back into a market that it had fallen out of over the last three to four years due to high prices and poor design.
The Chalk Burst aka the Summer Pack, is a white based PG1 that features Flywire Tech and Zoom Air. This colorway has been seen on the court already, but the style lends itself perfectly to off the court fashion. I have been very impressed with the performance of the shoe in the after market, but the Obsidian based Ferocity hasn’t sold as quickly in a bigger release, but this means very little as it is a more subdued colorway that is not quite as attractive as the other releases in the Nike PG1 (You can buy those via eBay). This version though is interesting enough that I felt the need to drop a SYBTF. Is it going to pop though? Let’s get to it.
*** I’ve been neglecting to say that I’m writing these for those people who don’t have a hookup or discount. On almost any Jordan Brand release if you get a discount you can flip it for a profit.
Since I do 3 checks before my decision I will weight them on a scale of 1-9. The max points on a scale = +3
*** New addition to the rating system: Tier 1: 0-25% = +1 Tier 2: 26-55% = +2 Tier 3: 56% and up is +3
First check: Flight Club has not really jumped on the bandwagon of the Paul George releases. It’s understandable why. There really haven’t been many drops and the biggest GR was the Ferocity. That shoe isn’t as exciting as “The Shining” or the 2K so the PG 1 is basically absent. The Shining is on the platform at 225.00 which would place the PG into Tier 3 territory. The Chalk Burst will be a bigger release, and more readily available as a part of the Summer Pack, but without that shoe being on Flight Club it limits the ability to guage the market a bit. What I will do is look at The Shining and adjust down 75 dollars which places the price for resale at 150.00. At 110.00 retail the PG1 is a shoe that I’m very high on for resale value. You can easily bump this shoe to 170.00 and I think people who really want the shoe will pay it.
ROI: 110 + tax = 120.00
Add 15.00 for shipping
Total: 135.00
While the Shining on FC is 225 it was very limited. This shoe won’t be, so where does it rate? I say as a FC check the shoe will be a 175.00 price.
175-135 = 40.00 which is a Tier 1 ROI at 22% if you can sell it via the Gram or FB. That’s not bad at all for a Tier 1 shoe. Can I give it a higher rating though? No… But think of this as a strong 1.
Rating = +1.5
Second check: My second check is always on eBay. eBay is very interesting when you look at the PG1. There are multiple colors available and 603 listings. When you isolate to Summer Pack PG it drops to 115. The shoe is almost sold out via SNKRS so this shows that people will buy from third party platforms before visiting Nike. Which is crazy. Anyway, of the 115 listed only 2 have sold so maybe people aren’t buying there yet. :
April 6 – 153.88
April 6 – 149.90
303.78/2 = 151.89 x .13 = 19.75 for fees on top of 135 leaves this shoe at a negative return at retail. Right now the price has been set on the Summer Pack.
Do I think the shoe will increase in price back to 175? Yes I do, but right now I can’t go above the 1.5 rating of the FC Check.
Rating = +1.5
Third check: Currently on StockX the shoe doesn’t have any bids. Not a good sign. The launch locator is also a much bigger release than I thought.
Rating = 1
My final ruling: 4 out of 9… I want to rate this shoe higher than a 4, but by the numbers I can’t. I do think if you grab this shoe to collect you’ll be happy with it because it’s dope, but you will have to be cautious when trying to flip. All of the Summer Pack shoes will be in abundance so it becomes a bit dangerous to play around with.
