There is a consistent misunderstanding and undervaluation of the resale marketplace for sneakers. While GOAT, StockX and eBay get the most coverage as resale platforms, Amazon remains the place for resale that more accurately reflects the retail environment. I’ve always stated that there are various forms of sneaker resale. One form assists retail with removing inventory from the supply chain, arbitrage. Another form helps brands and retailers reach consumers who don’t have access, supplementary. The final form of resale removes product from the supply chain purely for profit, intrusive. Intrusive resale does not build brand loyalty. It disrupts the natural flow of product from brand to consumer. This top ten will look nothing like what you’ll see on other resale platforms but based on the units projected to move the list gives insight into a world beyond hype.
While the majority of resale for intrusive/hyped resale has shifted to StockX, Amazon remains the most dominant platform. This is because Amazon caters to every demographic in the sneaker marketplace. There is a distinct difference in the type of sneakers sold on Amazon because of the sheer number of people utilizing Amazon Prime. Amazon more accurately reflects retail, while StockX reflects brand heat in resale. There is also another distinct difference for a seller setting up an account to sell on Amazon, it’s more of a business than utilizing GOAT or StockX. There is a real risk involved with an Amazon Seller Central account. The owner has to have the capital to wait on Amazon’s slower payout process, and a seller must have the ability to either warehouse their product or send it in to an Amazon Fufillment Center. To minimize the risk if you’re starting up, I want to provide the top ten sneakers you can sell on Amazon to jumpstart your Black Friday strategy. Information included in this report (Duplicate models with different sizes removed to create a more diverse top 10. Nike Air Force 1, Air Max 270, 2017 and On Running dominated the top 10):
