My daughter won the middle school high jump championship for the Tennessee Homeschool Association. We have an awesome coach at the MHEA, but I train her during the offseason. Every month we hit that “first day of her period” where she feels awkward about training. Her first day tends to be her heaviest day. My job is to talk with her openly because I need her to understand there isn’t any shame in having a period. At 13, she’s already comfortable telling me what’s up with her body. It’s a dope feeling to be able to speak with my daughter without patriarchal restrictions. When I was growing up, the dialogue wasn’t very good between my mom and sister. I didn’t have a dad in the house, so I never got to witness the exchange between daughter and dad. I know men right now who don’t want to have convos about menstruation with their wives or daughters.

adidas is introducing what I think is a really important product. I’ve never seen a brand really attack it in this way. Maybe I didn’t pay attention. While a few years back, I helped a startup 4 Period (yep, I made the logo and the name when we were working out of Cowork Memphis space), launch a period panty business, I never thought about the fitness aspect. I always assumed that a woman could just throw a pad on and hit the road. My ignorance changed as my daughter started her period last year. My wife talked with my daughter and asked her if she would be comfortable having me listen or be available to have the discourse. Seeing this new product line from the Three Stripes is a welcomed introduction. I immediately wrote my wife and I sat down asap to write this post. WE STARTED DESIGNING THIS COLLECTION FROM THE INSIDE, OUT. WE KNEW IT HAD TO BE COMFORTABLE AND BREATHABLE, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, IT HAD TO SERVE ITS PURPOSE OF HELPING TO PROTECT AGAINST LEAKAGE.

THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE WE FACED IN BRINGING THE TECHFIT PERIOD PROOF TIGHTS TO MARKET WAS THE TESTING. IT WAS INCREDIBLY RIGOROUS AND WENT THROUGH SEVERAL ROUNDS, BECAUSE WE HAD TO BE SURE OUR PRODUCT COULD DELIVER.
