Bloomberg recently shared an article asking if Allbirds’ 1.7 Billion dollar valuation can be lived up to. I responded, not yet. My reasoning requires a video of its own, but what I’ve seen from the brand is that they have an amazing ability to be first in the conversation around sustainability and footwear, but they have yet to shift into a place where the brand is identifiable. While minimalist branding is a thing, their inability to distinguish their products from others is problematic and when compared to Reebok, who has made some of the best sustainable products on the market and they also have a legacy and shelf space, for Allbirds to be valued at what is over half of the asking price that adidas is attempting to sell Reebok for should raise some red flags.
Allbirds is a niche brand with an incredible eye for what’s next in sustainability, but this recent investment shouldn’t shine the light on Allbirds. This investment should shine a light on Natural Fiber Welding, Inc. The company is manufactured in the U.S. currently and can truly place a dent in the eco issues surrounding plastic. NFW is the highlight here.
