Biz Talk Ep. 8 | Blurred Lines: Using the Dunk, Jordan 1 & Air Force 1 – Inspiration or Bootleg?

ARCH was originally a sneaker company. When I first started making shoes, I used influences from 361, K1X, Nike and Jordan Brand. I also used inspiration from Air Max 90s and Nike Frees. Sneaker designers have been borrowing since the first shoe was created.

With so many options and design tools available, it would seem that inspiration would derive from other sources, but in the last few years since BAPE pulled off their use of the Air Force 1, taking the exact same silhouette seems to have become okay.

While customizers enhance a product, is using every part of the original design for an “original shoe” homage or bootlegging?
