Ewing Athletics continues to churn out updates to its classic roster. The brand is fighting to find footing in a shaky retail environment by delivering colorways that are both eye catching and functional. This month the brand is delivering three unique kicks, but one catches my eye more than others.
The Waterproof Ewing 33 Hi is slightly different than other versions. The shoe is waterproof and the gum outsole is sticky enough to replace those Timbs and sneaker boots. The one glaring difference is the in the tongue area. Traditional Ewings feature a more padded tongue. That was one of the issues with capturing certain segments of the market. This reduction in padding helps to create a more secure fit keeping the foot dryer in wet conditions. More important it makes the shoe a lot more attractive. That Brown/Blue combination is butter. The Rogue in Black and Pewter is dope and the reflective Black/White Ice creates a classic colorblack that can be worn with any item of apparel. I hope that the reduction in padding becomes a standard for the brand. I think it could really lead to the development of a more streamlined design and could land the brand back on the feet of NBA athletes if desired.
Ewing November Retro Collection consists of 3 shoes: 33 HI Winter in a full waterproof upper in Brown/Navy/Gold ($125), ROGUE Black/Pewter ($120) featuring a reflective upper and smoked ice soles and 33 HI Black/White/Ice ($120). This pack will release in stores and online on Friday 11/17. Retailers will carry sizes 8-13 and larger sizes will be available on Ewingathletics.com.
